Well, once again we find ourselves at the end of another year, wondering where the time went. We want to thank all the guests, returning and new, who help us do what we do and appreciate the unique charm of our little piece of paradise.
Some guests were having trouble getting onto our wireless network this summer, so we've been trying to improve that service. We've invested in a new router and modem and are exploring ways to extend the network throughout the property, so if you are having trouble when you arrive, please let us know and we'll try to get it straightened out. In the past the front porch and the gazebo were good bets for reliable wi-fi access, and some of the cottages received the signal, but we're working to get the place into the 21st century, at least as far as internet service is concerned, so thanks for bearing with us.
Please try and remember to remind us when you make your reservations whether or not you will be bringing a pet with you. Sometimes folks bring a pet one year and not the next, sometimes we forget who has pets and who doesn't, and it makes it easier to get the billing correct the first time if you could help us out. And, speaking of...
We will begin taking reservations for returning guests on January 2nd, 2009, and everyone else on February 1st. There will be changes this year regarding availability of the 1780 House, so a little explanation might be in order. We were approached last year by Dr. Rick Wahle at Bigelow Laboratories about the possibility of him renting the 1780 house for 10 weeks next summer (May-August) to house graduate students who will be in town working on a grant-funded project. While we realized that agreeing to this proposal would mean turning some long-time guests away, the fact that this program covers a number of weeks which we have been unable to consistently rent in the past, means that from a business standpoint it was an offer we couldn't refuse.
We have tried to contact any guests whom we feel would be put out by this decision, and tried to make alternative arrangements with them, but the facts are that some returning 1780 House guests will be disappointed, and for that we apologize in advance.
Please let us know during your stay if something is missing, broken or inoperative in your cottage as soon as you can. Oftentimes, guests will wait until they are leaving on Saturday, and this sometimes doesn't give us enough time to fix the problem before the next guests arrives.
As always, from everyone here at Harborfields, we want to thank you for you continued support of this unique, family-run resort and we wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you again next year!
