The Harborfields Herald Fall 2016

November 5, 2016

Dear friends,

Wow, what a great year it has been! We had guests staying on the Harborfields property almost continuously from May 11 to October 16 (just one small gap of 2 nights in early June with no one else here but Tim). This added up to over 960 cottage-nights occupied for the season. We hosted 6 weddings this past year, with guest lists ranging from 15 to 150.....

While it was a great year, this fall has been especially crazy -- and we don’t just mean the upcoming election hanging over all of our heads! Bennett is away studying in Dijon, France, and times are challenging at Keene State College where Tim is still working. Wendy and Tim did break away for a whirlwind visit with Bennett in France after closing up the cottages in record time. Bennett is doing well and enjoying the camaraderie with his fellow Colby students in Dijon. He will be returning to the states in mid-December, and then reports to the Colby campus in Waterville, Maine, on January 2 for their “Jan Plan” term. Meanwhile, Wendy is looking forward to beginning her new role as an assistant coach for the Dublin School alpine ski team (Dublin is a small private prep school located in the town of Dublin, New Hampshire, just east of Keene).

But the main reason for writing is to tell you that we are already looking ahead to the 2017 season at Harborfields. We have already been fielding reservation requests! We want to remind this past years guests that those of you who stayed for a week or more during the months of July and August have “first dibs” on your cottage for your week(s), but we are only holding them for you until December 1, after which anything not claimed becomes available to all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our rates for 2017 cottage rentals will be unchanged from 2016, but (it seems there is always a “but...”) the discount we offered for cash or check payment turned out to be a bookkeeping nightmare, so we are only going to continue that program for returning guests who get their reservation requests in before December 1.

We have stopped entertaining inquiries for 2017 weddings, since we already have 7 on the books... but we are now taking inquiries for 2018 weddings!

We also want to remind our guests who bring dogs that the dogs must be leashed at all times, and the handlers must pick up after the dog -- immediately, anywhere and everywhere on the property.

We look forward to hearing from you regarding your plans for 2017, and we look forward to seeing you next summer. In the meantime, do try to enjoy the winter, where ever you are. (Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing!)

All the best,

Tim and Wendy (and Bennett)

(*) we hold the cottages for guests who stayed for a week or more during the months of July and August. In May, June, September, and October we sometimes have the opportunity to book the entire place for a wedding, which can impinge on a traditional Saturday-to-Saturday week by a day at one end and/or the other. We appreciate your flexibility should this happen, and offer a reduced or pro-rated rate in that event.

The Harborfields Herald newsletter is published annually in the fall, with maybe a few other short updates in the winter, spring, and summer.
